Palm Trees New Jersey
Is there a breed of palm that I can grow in New Jersey?
I noticed at the Jersey Shore a few places have grown successfully few palm trees. I was wondering if there is a rustic variety of Palm Tree that can grow in climates that are moderately cold and even Snowfall is rare??? Our climate in New Jersey is not the case for more snow, we have one or two snowfalls a year and that's all. I want to push a palm tree or two in my yard.
YES is there. Needle palms need no protection at all. they are cold -2 Hardy F without protection. Here are some pictures of them http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/28673/ the windmill is cold PALM 5 F Hardy with some damage. put some bubbles to protect the trunk the coldest periods of cold. also a plastic bag to cover the crown when heavy snow is expected is wise. These are Queen palms and need a lot of protection to survive in NJ GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!
