Palms?

I live in a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona. There are many palm trees in the metropolitan area and Tucson about 90 miles South-East. However, in the desert surrounding towns there are no palm trees. And my question is why? I know that in the city of palm trees can be watered as opposed to the middle of the desert, but I have a palm tree in my yard before and I've never sprayed in the six years I've lived here. Can live in palm city because their roots can draw water or what? It is certainly warm enough for them to Arizona to develop, it seems like it would be too dry and it really confused.

It is likely that because they are in an artificial environment that they can obtain water more easily. There more water available, because it is provided by artificial means. In addition, trees are maintained. Cacti absorb and store water, but the palms are not. Therefore, it is more difficult for them to live in the desert climate.
